s24 - Islanders So Far [WB3]

2023-05-08

The biggest disappointment so far on the island, has to be, the play of Kevin Shattenkirk. He is given second line defensive minutes and second line power play minutes and still has no point through nine games. The team has put a lot of time and energy into this player and have yet to see any payback. Even though all of this has happened the team would still wish to resign Kevin Shattenkirk but he is complaining about ice time and is giving incredibly low odds to resign. Very disappointing.

Kevin Shattenkirks line partner is the next most disappointing with only one point so far and on the same power play and line as Shattenkirk. SO between these two young twenty three to twenty four year old players they need to step up or have their ice time reduced. “I am all about giving youth a fair shot but if these two gentlemen do not pick up the slack soon maybe they should hit the press box or the bricks”, GM Paul Gagne was over heard yelling in the Islanders offices this week.

Lastly the play of Jacob Markstrom has been so-so to this point and likely the pressures of holding this team together is getting to him. The more disappointing part of the goaltending duo has to be Scott Darling, He is the more veteran of the two goalies and is to be there to take up slack for Jacob Markstrom but in his one game he was an absolute tire fire. “This poor excuse for a goaltender can ride the pine all year if that is the type of performance he is going to give”, said GM Paul Gagne. “Maybe we need to re-evaluate these highly touted youngsters and replace them with players outside the organization or bring up different guys from the farm”, “I would really hate to have to fire this coach”, said GM Paul Gagne.

The atmosphere in Long Island seems to be perform now, at your highest effort, or get lost.
