s15 - Sharks Week 21 (®)

2020-06-27

Another week has come and gone in the VHL season, and we find ourselves sitting here with just 30 days left. This season has largely gone as expected, with the Sharks sitting at the bottom of the Pacific with just 15 games to go. Through 67 games, the Sharks have a 24-38-5 record. Leading the way for the Sharks is Zyuzin with 57PTS in 65GP, Calder with 50PTS in 67GP, and Morrow with 46PTS in 67GP. Newcomer Radim Vrbata has been stellar since joining the Sharks, with 7G and 5A for 12PTS in just his first 9GP. Lets take a look at this last weeks games:

Sabres (GD 139) - The Sabres head to town for the final meeting of the season between the teams, after the Sharks dropped the first meeting 3-2 a few weeks ago. The Sharks came out flying in this one, en route to a 6-1 victory while outshooting the Sabres 38-25. Sharks goals came from Stillman(12th), Cheechoo (14th), Vrbata (11th), Morrow(17th), and Nasreddine had 2(6th and 7th). David Wilkie added 2 assists, and Stillman added an assist for 2 points on the night. Hasek stopped 24 of 25, as the Sharks went 2 for 8 on the PP, and the Sabres didnt even get a chance.

Maple Leafs (GD 141) - The Leafs come to town for the final meeting of the season, after the Sharks dropped the first meet 5-1. They came out with another loss, this time 3-2, though the Sharks outshot the Leafs 28-24. Sharks got goals from Stillman(13th) and Vrbata(12th). Hasek stopped 21 of 24, as the Sharks went 1 for 4 on the PP with the Leafs going 0 for 4.

Kings (GD 143) - The Sharks homestand comes to a close, as they head out to LA for the 3rd meeting of the season with the Kings. The Sharks have lost both previous meetings, but pull a tie out of this one, with a final score of 3-3 while outshooting the Kings 40-27. Sharks got their first hat trick of the season, getting all 3 of their goals from Vrbata (13th,14th,15th). Quintal added 2 assists on the night. Hasek stopped 24 of 27 shots, as the Sharks went 2 for 4 on the PP with the Kings going 1 for 4.

Wild (GD 145) - The Sharks then headed to Minnesota for the 3rd meeting of the season with the Wild, the defending cup champs. The Sharks dropped both previous meetings with the Wild by 2-1 scores, but flipped the script this game and came out with their own 2-1 win. The Sharks got goals from Calder (16th) and Quintal (14th), with Cheechoo adding 2 assists and Quintal adding an assist of his own. Hasek was dominant, stopping 28 of 29 shots this game. A bit of bad news however, as it appears the Sharks have lost veteran dman David Wilkie for the remainder of the season to a Torn MCL off of a blocked shot in the first period. Unfortunate as it is, it will give newcomer Bouchard a chance to step into the lineup, and let Wilkie rest up for the start of next season.

The Week Ahead (GD 148-153) - The Sharks have another busy week ahead, with 4 games in just 6 days. The Sharks first stop in Winnipeg on GD 148 for the 4th meeting of the season between the teams. The Sharks currently hold a 2-1 record in the season series. The Sharks will then host the Admirals on GD 149, for the 4th and final meeting of the season. The Sharks currently are 2-0 with 1 tie against the Admirals. The Sharks will then have a home and home series with the Kings, first traveling to LA on GD 151, then return home on GD 153, which will then kick off a 6 game homestand. The Sharks currently own a 0-1-1 with 1 tie record against the Kings, and these will be the final two meetings of the season between the teams.
