s23 - Buyers or Sellers [WB8]

2023-02-06

Can a team be considered a buyer or a seller when they are ready to deal at any point in the season? Does Buffalo even have anything that people would want? What appears to be the main issue is Buffalo could fall anywhere from a 3 seed to out of the playoffs in 1 bad stretch of games.

Sellers:

If Buffalo are sellers their only true piece to sell off would be Josh Georges who signed a1 year show me deal. Josh has been playing very well with offensive dynamo Erik Karlsson providing the stay at home needs to be the ying and yang of that pair.  What kind of package would Georges need to move and would that make sense for them? Buffalo would prob want a late 1 for Georges which wont happen and a 2nd with a boost would seem fair, but for a team who could be in the playoffs is the value worth it? Buffalo dose have Ryan Ellis who can step right in if needed. Our guess Georgy stay in Buffalo and walks in UFA.

Not exactly a seller move but there ae loads of expiring 3/4th line guys or sentimental guys. IF a team is looking for Drury,Gordon,Zherdev,Alison, Satan et al they can probably be had for a low amount, well except Alison maybe. I mean 1.25 mil 76 ov center should be able to find a spot right? But id thnk the all time Sabre leader goes out with the Sabres. I could see 1 or 2 of those old guys going for a 3 and maybe a boost.

Buyers:

Buffalo could be in the market to add a decent forward. The issue is what could they give up or want to give up? Not many teams are looking for D men and there are a few nice D prospects they could flip for a forward. Maybe one of the later 1’s this year could be going that way. Looks like Hubacher has been saving all those picks to build the next pipeline of players.

As much as the people of Buffalo would like to see a move, it is my belief that the Sabres will hold pat unless a no brainer deals falls into their laps. This means we will see the final game for at least 3 of the VHL’s best players over the past decade. We hope to see Satan, Alison and Nabby in the hall of fame if we ever get back to voting for that. Until then as always Buffalo is open for business.
