S15- Someone Just did Something Special [WB4]

2020-05-22

There is very little doubt who is the best player to suit it in the VHL. It is quite obviously Calle Johansson, probably the best offensive defender. He also has another season to play. No wait it is Theo Fleury, hands down. He will probably end up with highest point total of any player VHL history. He will be the best forward. Hopefully end up with a Cup in Toronto. I’m calling it now. Ya Stevie Y is alright, but unfortunately he plays for an unpopular team. So there is that. But you know what all these players (and most others in discussion the best ever) have in common. They were here when the league started.

So it would make sense that most of the guys that are setting big milestones are close to retirement. I mean big milestones, not like 100 goals or 200 points. Those are chump change. (By the way Andy MacDonald and Brad Boyes should hit 100 points, something Tim Connelly did earlier this season) Of the top 50 scorers in the league there is one, only one player that was drafted. And he just pasted a milestone only 14 others have done, raking up 1100 points.

It is almost laughable how the VHL works sometimes, and how much it deviates from real life. Eric Lindros was drafted to the Quebec Nordiques in both the NHL and the VHL. He decided that he would not play for the team in the NHL, but the VHL was a different story. His rookie season was his worst from a statistical point of view, 60 points. He has failed to reach 70 point three times and has gone over 100 points three times. One of those seasons he should have won the Hart, but a very convincing PR campaign for Theo Fleury made him the winner.

There are some pretty good players that have been drafted that have had pretty good season and careers so far. None, have been as good as Lindros. I know that a lot of times I have made definitive statements and then retracted it. Not this time. Eric Lindros is 15th on the all time scorer list. He probably won’t climb the list for a couple years due to the fact most of the players are still active. But it is not the players in front of him, but the ones behind them that make him truly special. He is 318 points ahead of the next highest drafted player, Scott Niedermayer. Lindros is the 15th highest scorer, and Nieds is the 75th. He is 60 spots better than the next best player. Wow. Glad to have him in the fold.

Congrats to the Big Guy and hopefully he continues to light up the league. He could very well end up in the top handful of point scorers at the time of his retirement. Not bad for Joe Juneau and Petr Nedved.

Peace Out folks, and don’t believe the fake news.

I don't think the Penguins are unpopular, it's the moron in the pressbox in over his head. Reminds me of that idiot on the news all the time...
