s13 - Roenick Plays 1,000th (®)

Edmonton, AB -- Jeremy Roenick's 13-year career reached a new milestone Monday night as the 32-year-old played in his 1,000th career game.

The Oilers' captain became the 5th player in league history to appear in 1,000 or more games exclusively with one team joining Geoff Sanderson (HFD), Shawn Burr (WPG), Sylvain Cote (HFD) and Mats Sundin (SSK).  He is the 38th player in VHL league history to hit the millennium mark in his career.

"He means a lot, such a character human being."
GM Chris Baker discusses JR hitting the 1000-game plateau last night

Roenick celebrated the accolade on home ice at Northlands Coliseum against the Kansas City Scouts. Reports indicate that Scouts GM Matt George hand delivered a $1000 bottle of wine to Roenick after Edmonton’s 2-1 win.  A classy move coming from a team that only plays each other four times a season.

"Right now I haven’t even really had time to process the accomplishment.  It’s a special moment. The ultimate goal is to win the Stanley Cup, but to be as fortunate as I’ve been to avoid major injury and spend every game in front of these fans has been awesome.  You can’t help but remember all the people you’ve played with, the coaches you've had, management, all the trainers that support you behind the scenes and most of all, your family and friends who help you through the grind day-to-day," Roenick said after the game.

The Boston, Massachusetts, native has 318 goals, 561 assists and 879 points throughout his career. He's made eight playoff appearances accumulating 102 games played, scoring 35 goals, 58 assists for 93 points.

Bravo JR … Bravo!!
